About us
Tahadi Association for Equality and Citizenship
The Tahadi Association for Equality and Citizenship (ATEC), formerly known as the Tahadi Association for the Environment (ATE), is a democratic and independent association founded on 14 December 2003 in Casablanca, Morocco.
At first, the association was mainly concerned with improving living conditions within the neighbourhood, making it a place worthy of human beings and improving residents' quality of life: ATE was therefore essentially environmental in focus.
However, the dynamic nature of community work — a hallmark of the Tahadi association — the constant interaction between the population's growing needs and the services offered by the association, as well as the lessons learned from its early experience, shaped its new vision of development and of the obstacles to it.
Beyond environmental issues, ATEC found itself facing other scourges: delinquency, poverty, unemployment, drugs, violence (especially gender-based violence), prostitution, illiteracy, school dropout, extremism… Since then, ATEC has broadened its mission, diversified its areas of action and changed its name to the Tahadi Association for Equality and Citizenship (ATEC).
Taking up the challenge of our neighbourhood
The Tahadi association (Tahadi literally means “Challenge”) is a neighbourhood association based in Derb Ghalef, in the Maarif district (Anfa prefecture) of Casablanca. Tahadi has adopted two slogans as its motto:
- “Let's take up the challenge of our neighbourhood!”
- “Let's act in our neighbourhood for a better society”
These strategic watchwords drive its daily community work, towards a democratic, modern and tolerant society where the human and universal values of freedom, equality and responsible citizenship prevail for everyone!
Through this work, the association aims to help lay the foundations of sustainable development for and with citizens, and to strengthen the role and participation of civil society in achieving this major goal for Morocco.
